On Sunday night, Jamaica's Toni-Ann Singh won the Miss World crown. Her win means the titles of Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss America, Miss USA and Miss young USA have all gone to black girls this year—an historic first!
And to celebrate her history-making win, the 23-year-old tweeted for the terribly 1st time.
Sharing a photograph of herself in her scintillating crown, the pageant queen wrote, "To that tiny lady in St. Thomas, Jamaica and every one the ladies round the world—please believe yourself. Please understand that you simply ar worthy and capable of achieving your dreams. This crown isn't mine however yours. you've got a PURPOSE."
Singh has currently joined the ranks of Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi, Miss America Nia Franklin, Miss USA Cheslie Kryst and Miss young USA Kaliegh Garri. Kryst conjointly competed within the Miss Universe pageant aboard Tunzi, creating it all the thanks to the highest ten.To celebrate her own historic win last week, Tunzi wrote regarding new doors of chance being opened.

It wasn't till 1970 that a girl of color was topped the winner of 1 of the most important titles for the primary time once Jennifer Hosten of Grenada won Miss World. it'd take another seven years for Miss Universe to try and do an equivalent once crowning Janelle Commissiong of Trinidad. arthropod genus Williams was the primary adult female to be topped Miss America in 1983. Carole Anne-Marie Gist was the primary black Miss USA, topped in 1990. And in 1991, Janel Bishop became the primary black Miss young USA.
